Tax free and postage 2024/4/8 19:00
Hello,
Itfs my first trip to visit Japan.
Ifm planning to buy anime figures and books.
I read about tax free option.

Ifve read that at the airport they will scan your passport. You should have the items with you too. But how will the airport check if itfs in the checked in luggage?
I was thinking of shipping the items back by post.

Ifm guess itfll be safer to ship the items that I paid with tax, correct?

Go to the tax counter before you check in your baggage.

Yes you can also send it home from the post offices. Japan Post has a English website.

Alot of store will offer tax free if you show you passport at time of purchase. Saves doing it at the airport.

99.99% chance that they wonft ask you to show anything. Also, most people donft even bother and just keep walking.

Thanks to lots of abuses, the tax-free shopping system is expected to change as early as next year to one where tourists will have to get the refunds at the airport.
