Tax free and postage

It�fs my first trip to visit Japan.
I�fm planning to buy anime figures and books.
I read about tax free option.

I�fve read that at the airport they will scan your passport. You should have the items with you too. But how will the airport check if it�fs in the checked in luggage?
I was thinking of shipping the items back by post.

I�fm guess it�fll be safer to ship the items that I paid with tax, correct?

Alot of store will offer tax free if you show you passport at time of purchase. Saves doing it at the airport.

99.99% chance that they won�ft ask you to show anything. Also, most people don�ft even bother and just keep walking.

Thanks to lots of abuses, the tax-free shopping system is expected to change as early as next year to one where tourists will have to get the refunds at the airport.
